The friend helping on the shoot found a tiny sewing kit at the bottom of a box. The only red thread left was a shade darker than the scarf. “You won’t see it from a distance.” Sophiemina pulled a folding chair under the work lamp.
Fold the loose edge under, one stitch from the back. The snip of the scissors sounded oddly loud in the suddenly quiet studio. The friend looked at the stitch before handing it back. It sat at a slight angle.

Sophiemina felt along the back of the cloth without checking the mirror. “I’ll know where it is.” Her friend offered to redo it. Sophiemina folded the scarf in two and put it in her bag.
“Will you be in this studio next week?” Her friend nodded. Sophiemina wound the loose thread back onto the spool. “Then I’ll leave the red here.”
